Policies & Standards
We will use sterile, high quality implant-grade (ASTM F-136 Titanium, Niobium, or solid 14k gold) jewelry from our APP Verified suppliers for your initial piercings.
Bringing Your Own Jewelry
You are welcome to bring your own jewelry to be installed in a healed piercing, provided it is an appropriate size, material, and quality.
Jewelry Sales Are Final
Once it has been installed in your body, or you have opened the sterile package, that jewelry is yours to keep — minus breakages, of course! All of our jewelry comes with a lifetime warranty for breakages.
Sterile Gloves
While everyone in our studio uses single-use disposable nitrile gloves for tattoo & piercing related services, our piercers use sterile, polychloroprene gloves for each piercing to maintain sterility while avoiding latex allergies.
ID Policies & Requirements
Unfortunately, due to the rise of AI we are no longer accepting photos of identification. Moving forward we will only accept physical, original documentation.
We kindly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
What type of ID do I need to bring?
Due to our insurance policy and Island Health requirements, we are legally obligated to require original, and valid (non-expired) government-issued photo ID for each client, regardless of age, even if you have provided your ID previously.
Acceptable forms of ID include, but are not limited to:
- Driver's license
- Services Card (Care Card)
- Identity Card
- Status Card with photo & DOB
- Other forms of government-issued photo ID
Or one of these:
- School/college photo ID
- Work photo ID
In tandem with:
- Birth certificate
- Services Card (Care Card)
ID Requirements for Minors
Any person under the age of 16 requires a parent or legal guardian to be present at check-in, with valid government-issued ID for both parties. We understand that most minors do not have government-issued photo ID. Some examples of acceptable forms of ID for minors are:
Minor has:
- Government-issued photo ID
- Passport
- School or work photo ID with a passport
- School or work photo ID with Services/Care Card
- Status Card with photo & DOB
Parent or guardian has:
- Driver's license
- Passport
- Other government-issued photo ID
- Status Card with photo & DOB
If you are not the parent but are the legal guardian of the minor, we will need official, original paperwork confirming your responsibility for that person.
Please note that if your child is younger than our age of requirement, the service(s) will not be performed, despite having parental consent. You can find age requirements for piercings on our Price List. For tattoos, age requirements may vary based on the artist and the design you have in mind. Please inquire directly with the tattoo artist of your choice.

Post vs. Ring
Most fresh piercings will be performed with a straight post to ensure the best and safest healing, with the exception of daiths and septums. We recommend waiting 8–12 months before installing rings in most piercings.
Downsizing
Downsizing is an integral step for most piercings, with the few exceptions of things like dermals, septums, daiths, and rooks. For all other piercings, we give extra room on the jewelry so you have room to swell, and recommend returning to have your jewelry downsized to help further your healing process, and to prevent snags, bumps, migration, and injury.
At Lumen, we really care about you and your healing process, which is why we removed the financial burden of downsizing by making it completely free.
